Shopify Retail Barcode Labels alternatives (2026)
Shopify's own Retail Barcode Labels app is free and first-party, which is why most merchants try it first. It's also sitting at 2.2 stars across 465 reviews, unusually low for a first-party app, and as of April 2026 its quantity defaults are broken, so merchants are typing label counts in by hand for every product.
If you're here, you've probably hit one of its limits. This is an honest rundown of what's actually available in 2026, including real ratings and prices. One disclosure up front: we make LabelFast, one of the apps below. We've kept the comparison factual and we'll tell you plainly what each app is good at.
Why merchants leave Retail Barcode Labels
Three complaints come up over and over:
- Broken quantity defaults (since April 2026). Label quantities no longer pre-fill sensibly, so batch printing means manually entering a count for every single product. For a store printing labels for hundreds of SKUs, that's the whole afternoon.
- No custom label sizes. You pick from the built-in templates or you're out of luck. Non-standard stock, small jewelry tags, round stickers, unusual sheet layouts, isn't supported.
- No purchase-order printing. There's no way to print labels for exactly what arrived in a stock delivery.
It's free, and if you use one of the supported label sizes and don't mind typing quantities, it still works. But "free" costs a lot of time at 2.2 stars.

App-by-app notes
Yanet: Barcode Labels, 4.8★ (432 reviews), $7.99 to $69.99/mo
The most-reviewed third-party option, with a strong rating. The entry price ($7.99) undercuts most of the field, but the tiers climb to $69.99/month, so look carefully at which features sit behind which tier for your store size.
Magestore MS: 4.9★ (351 reviews)
A very highly rated option from a vendor with a long retail-software background. Worth a look, particularly if you're already in the Magestore ecosystem.
506 EasyScan: 5.0★ (330 reviews), from $9.99/mo
A perfect 5.0 rating across 330 reviews is genuinely impressive and worth taking seriously. The main friction point is that there's no free plan, you're paying from day one, which makes it harder to trial casually.
CTS Multi Barcode Labels: 4.9★ (87 reviews), $9.99/mo
Well-rated at a simple flat price. The limit to know about: batches are capped at 400 labels, so large print runs get split into multiple jobs. Fine for small stores; tedious if you regularly relabel your whole catalog.
LabelFast: free for 200 labels/mo, $12.99/mo unlimited
This is our app (LabelFast), so weigh this section accordingly. It's not on the Shopify App Store yet, and it doesn't have years of reviews behind it. Here's what it actually does differently:
- Quantities default to inventory on hand. This is the direct fix for the Retail Barcode Labels complaint above, and as far as we know no competitor does it: when you select products, each label quantity pre-fills with your actual stock level. Printing labels for everything you have in stock stops being a data-entry job.
- Custom label sizes, including 3-inch circles. Define your own dimensions instead of picking from a fixed template list. Round labels, a years-old, still-open feature request on Shopify's own app, are supported.
- Read-only access. LabelFast requests read-only scopes and never writes to your store. A label app has no business editing your products or inventory, so it can't.
- Template stability. Your templates don't shift or break between sessions, what printed correctly last month prints correctly this month.
- No batch caps on the paid plan: $12.99/month, unlimited labels. The free tier covers 200 labels a month, which is enough for many small stores to never pay at all.
What we won't claim: purchase-order printing. Every app currently offering it depends on Stocky's private API, and Stocky shuts down on August 31, 2026. Shopify's native purchase orders aren't in the public API, so no app can honestly promise PO printing after that date. LabelFast's v1.1 takes the durable route instead, printing from native Shopify inventory transfers and shipments, which are public-API features that will still exist in September.
How to choose
- Zero budget, standard labels, patience for manual quantities: stay on Shopify Retail Barcode Labels. It's free and it does print.
- You want the most-proven third-party option: Yanet or 506 EasyScan, on review volume and ratings. Check Yanet's tier pricing and note EasyScan has no free plan.
- Simple flat pricing, smaller print runs: CTS at $9.99, within its 400-label batch cap.
- You print quantities matching your stock, need custom or round sizes, or you're planning around the Stocky shutdown: try LabelFast's free tier, 200 labels a month costs nothing to evaluate, and it can't modify your store either way.
Whatever you pick, test it on one real print run, your actual printer, your actual label stock, before committing. Barcode apps live or die on whether the physical label comes out right.
